◆意味
どんなに少しのものでも、積もり積もれば山のようになる。

No matter how small, if it keeps piling up eventually it will become a mountain.
◆使用例
1円でもいいから貯金するよ。「塵も積もれば山となる」からね。

◆一言メモ
仏教語からのことわざです。
大智度論が由来となっています。
鳩摩羅什訳「大智度論」巻94
「此の業の果報を受くれば、則ち度を得べきこと難し
譬えば微塵を積みて山と成さば、移動するを得べきこと難きが如し」
これが出典です。

年寄りの冷や水

老人が冷水を浴びるような、高齢に不相応な危ない行為や差し出がましい振る舞いをするのを、警告したり冷やかしたりしていう言葉。

豆腐に鎹 （とうふにかすがい）

◆意味
豆腐に鎹（くぎ）を打っても何も役に立たないように、何も役に立たないような様。

Useless to hammer a nail into tofu. State of uselessness.

◆使用例
彼に色々いっても聞かないから。「豆腐に鎹」だよ。
